He played Phil Mitchel's son on Eastenders for four years. And Harry Reid revealed his delight at being written out of the popular BBC soap, giving him more freedom to pursue other career options. During an appearance on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch, the 25-year-old actor - who left Albert Square for good in January - admitted that despite his love for the character, he wanted to avoid being 'typecast' for a long tenure on the soap.Chatting on the Sunday Brunch sofa, the Kent-native confessed that while the job security was desirable, it was time to branch out and audition for other projects.  Harry explained: 'There's obviously an essence of job security there. As an actor, it is such a hard thing – you want to pay the bills and you want to do the job you love. So you do have to make a choice.'Obviously I told you last time they wrote me out so they kind of gave me that push, but it was one that I'm glad they did, because now I can go out and do other stuff.' Harry said that leaving his long-term role was always something he had considered when talking about the future with his management.Of his fear of being typecast after leaving the famous Square, Harry continued: 'I always did want to renew because I loved the character but it was always in the back of our heads at some point to leave, because I did want to do other stuff.'And, as we know, in castings you do get type cast if you're there for too long, no matter how good you are.'His leap into the unknown proved successful for the actor, who recently made his on-stage debut has Leonard Vole in Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution. In January, EastEnders' fans watched Ben make a getaway with the stolen loot from Aidan Maguire's New Year jewellery heist in dramatic scenes. In the nail biting sequence, the mechanic looked terrified as he makes a low-key arrival with his luggage to board a ferry in Dover. Ben fled to Calais with the money determined to start a new life, but was devastated after finding newspapers instead of the cash hidden in his bag.
